Critics Review
An excellent resource for readers looking for an alternative to minimalism or who want to curate more colorful, cultural, intentional, and layered designs in their homes. What Guyton does especially well is strike a balance between professional design inspiration and actionable steps readers can take towards designing their home.
* Library Journal *“In a world of fleeting trends, Amber reminds us that the most beautiful homes are the ones that reflect the people who live in them. Soulful Maximalism celebrates personality and intentional design in a way that’s both inspiring and approachable.”
– Barry & Jordan, The Brownstone Boys“Amber has a gift for making abundance feel harmonious. Soulful Maximalism is full of juicy color, patterned wallcoverings, and what feels like layers of joy. I especially appreciate her love of pinks and teals—incorporating bright colors but grounding them in a way that feels both exuberant and livable. And beneath all that beauty, she weaves in personal stories and meaning, giving us a deeper view into her approach to life and design. Soulful Maximalism reminds us that when we surround ourselves with the colors, objects, and stories we love, that’s when a space can really touch our soul.”
– Justina Blakeney, designer, artist, and founder of Jungalow“Every page of Soulful Maximalism is a visual feast and filled with punchy, personal, and accessible glimpses into the design philosophy of Amber Guyton. The principles of Soulful Maximalism (Joy, Culture, Layers, Intention) can be applied to various aspects of our lived experience and it’s such a useful framework for assessing the ways our interior spaces and decorative objects are serving us. We see Amber’s book as a beautiful archive of her work and so much of her personal history and beliefs that contribute to how she transforms spaces! Consider Soulful Maximalism a record of what she’s made with her creative resourcefulness and ingenuity. It’s so affirming to see interior designers joyfully creating spaces with color, culture, texture, and sharing in our deep reverence for thoughtful design and storytelling. Brava!”
– Jannah and Kiyanna Handy, founders of BLK MKT Vintage and coauthors of “BLK MKT Vintage”“Design should feel like you—only with better lighting. Soulful Maximalism is a joyful nudge to trust your instincts, share your heritage, break a few rules, and create a home full of personality, soul, meaning, and magic.”
– Natalie Papier“You can hide behind restraint. You cannot hide behind abundance. Maximalism makes you answer the question: what do you actually love, and can you defend it. Amber has written the most disciplined book about design abundance I have read. Every object earns its place, and by the end you will know how to make yours do the same.”
– Marie Cloud, Founder & Interior Designer, Indigo Pruitt Design Studio“Soulful Maximalism is your next go-to resource for creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but also feel really good to be in! Amber takes us on a journey and provides practical tips that are easy to implement so you can lean in and curate a home that’s uniquely your own. A true inspiration and a revelation!”
