About The Author

Charles C. Yost

Charles C. Yost

Charles C. Yost is an Associate Professor of Medieval History at Hillsdale College. He received his PhD in Medieval Studies from the University of Notre Dame in 2019 and his MA in Medieval Studies from Columbia University in 2012. At Hillsdale College, he was honored as “Professor of the Year” in 2024.

While his primary research focuses on the historical relations between the Byzantine Empire and the Latin West, the issue of the schism, and Byzantine intellectuals who advocated for communion with Rome, he possesses a broad expertise in medieval and Byzantine civilization. He has contributed to both popular and academic publications in these fields.

His scholarship includes a study on Rome and Constantinople as perceived by Byzantine unionists, published in the journal Pietas in 2025. Additionally, his major work on the thought of John Plousiadenos, the last prominent Byzantine unionist (d. 1500), was featured in Speculum, the leading English-language journal for medieval studies, in April 2026.
