Charles Ghigna (Father Goose)
Charles Ghigna, also known as Father Goose, is an award-winning children’s author and poet. He has authored over one hundred books published by major houses such as Disney, Random House, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster. His work also includes more than five thousand poems featured in various publications including anthologies, textbooks, syndicated newspapers, and magazines like Harper’s Magazine, The New Yorker, Highlights, and Cricket.
Ghigna has held significant roles in the literary community, including serving as a poet in residence at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, an instructor of creative writing at Samford University, a poetry editor for the National Council of Teachers of English’s English Journal, and a nationally syndicated feature writer for Tribune Media Services.
He has had the honor of reading his poems at prestigious venues such as the Library of Congress and the John F. Kennedy Center, as well as internationally at the American Library in Paris and the American School in Paris. His readings have also taken place at American International Schools across the Americas, schools in Alaska, and at conferences, libraries, book events, and schools throughout the United States and overseas.
Eric Carle
Eric Carle was the legendary and bestselling creator of the iconic book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, as well as more than seventy other classic books for young children. The Very Hungry Caterpillar has sold over sixty million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than eighty languages.
Carle’s contributions to children’s literature were widely recognized with numerous honors. He received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award (now known as the Children’s Literature Legacy Award) from the American Library Association, the NEA Foundation Award for Outstanding Service to Public Education, and many other national and international accolades.
In 2002, Eric Carle and his wife, Barbara, established The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts. Eric Carle passed away in 2021 at the age of ninety-one.
