Chris Claremont
Len Wein
Len Wein co-created DC’s Swamp Thing in 1972 before moving to Marvel, where he wrote lengthy runs on major titles such as Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, and Thor. He was instrumental in the creation of Giant-Size X-Men #1, a landmark issue that significantly impacted Marvel’s trajectory. Wein later returned to DC as an editor, overseeing an influx of British writing talent, most notably Alan Moore’s historic Watchmen miniseries. His work also extends to television and animation, including developing a Swamp Thing screenplay and writing comic book adaptations of The Simpsons and Futurama.
Chris Claremont
Industry legend Chris Claremont is renowned for his epic sixteen-year tenure on Uncanny X-Men. His focus on themes of prejudice and tolerance deeply resonated with comics fans, building an unparalleled following over three decades. Under his stewardship, the X-Men franchise expanded significantly with numerous spin-offs, many of which he wrote himself. His other notable credits include Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Power Man, and Spider-Woman. Claremont has continued to contribute to the X-Men universe through titles like New Exiles, GeNext, X-Men Forever, Chaos War: X-Men, and Nightcrawler.
Dave Cockrum
Artist Dave Cockrum (1943-2006) dreamed of a career in comic books from a young age. After a six-year naval service, he pursued his passion, quickly demonstrating a natural talent for illustrating superheroes. He began his comic career with Legion of Super-Heroes at DC Comics, where he became known for his innovative costume designs, revitalizing the classic futuristic team’s look for the first time since its Silver Age debut. After leaving Legion in 1975, Cockrum collaborated with writer Len Wein to create a new lineup of X-Men, introducing iconic characters like Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Colossus. Cockrum’s bold designs for these new mutants propelled X-Men to best-selling status. Despite a reduced artistic output in his later years, his influence on modern creators remains strong, as evidenced by The Uncanny Cockrum Tribute Book (2004), which featured contributions from over 75 notable writers and artists.
