Christine Fernyhough
Christine Fernyhough is a leading Auckland philanthropist, co-founder of Books in Homes and the Gifted Kids Programme.
In 2004, she purchased Castle Hill Station and transformed it into a high-performing farm. Her experiences there inspired her bestselling book, The Road to Castle Hill: A High Country Love Story, followed by Ben and Mark: Boys of the High Country and two children’s picture books, Dart of Castle Hill and Phyllis of Castle Hill. Her writing is described as inspirational, warm-hearted, funny, and honest.
Christine was made an ONZM in 2000 and a CNZM in 2011 for services to education and the community. In 2015, she established the Museum of the Everyday, showcasing her extensive collection of 20th-century New Zealand craft, design, folk art, and social history objects. Her latest book features this collection, housed in her seaside bach, the ‘Butterfly House’.
