Born Eleanor Robson in Wigan, England, she achieved fame as a stage actress in the early 20th century before retiring upon her marriage to August Belmont Jr. in 1910. Following her acting career, Belmont dedicated herself to numerous civic and charitable causes, including women’s suffrage, the American Red Cross, and the Metropolitan Opera.
