Critics Review

Of all Prothero’s books, this one is arguably the most fun and mind-broadening. He treats a range of fossil mammals—some familiar, others mysterious—and his accounts of their discoveries are refreshing and invite exploration. A great book for students of paleontology and for all curious minds. – Xiaoming Wang, author of Dogs: Their Fossil Relatives & Evolutionary HistoryFrom the American mastodon to Australopithecus, this book is an in-depth tour of the most remarkable fossil mammals known to paleontology. This very readable book will inform and educate laypersons, students, and professionals alike—another masterful contribution by Donald R. Prothero, one of our most accomplished natural history writers. – Spencer G. Lucas, author of Dinosaurs: The Textbook
