Critic Reviews

“"What a fantastic writer Douglas Jackson is . . . Glory of Rome is a thrilling novel from the outset and culminates in a brilliant battle sequence that had me on the edge of my seat." - - FOR WINTER NIGHTS”

Superbly written and packed with historical detail and action. -- Kate Atherton SUNDAY EXPRESS
What a fantastic writer Douglas Jackson is . . . Glory of Rome is a thrilling novel from the outset and culminates in a brilliant battle sequence that had me on the edge of my seat. FOR WINTER NIGHTS
The plot is taut and gallops along at a pace. The characters are all well-drawn and convincing, while the action sequences are exciting, bloody, and dramatic, without being overly graphic. The novel can be read as a standalone without any loss of enjoyment. A gripping tale from start to finish, and you will find it difficult to put down. Recommended. HISTORICAL NOVELS REVIEW

AD 77. Gaius Valerius Verrens is honoured to be part of Emperor Vespasian's inner circle. But the enmity between him and the emperor's son and heir, Domitian, is such that it is no longer safe for him to remain in Rome. So Valerius takes his family north. To the province of Britannia where he cut his military teeth - and where rebellion now threatens Rome's rule . . . As the governor Agricola prepares to suppress the uprising, a Roman garrison is massacred and the legate of the Ninth Legion dies under suspicious circumstances. The evidence points to the Celtic priesthood which, from its heartland on the isle of Mona, has long sought to rid their world of the imperial invader. To deal with the druids and the tribes who protect them, Agricola needs a soldier he can trust.
