Eddie Jaku

Eddie Jaku OAM

Eddie Jaku OAM, born Abraham Jakubowicz in Germany in 1920, survived the horrors of the Buchenwald and Auschwitz concentration camps during World War II. In 1945, he endured a “death march” before managing to escape and ultimately being rescued by Allied soldiers.

In 1950, Eddie and his family emigrated to Australia, where he has resided ever since. He dedicated his time as a volunteer at the Sydney Jewish Museum from its founding in 1992.

Eddie was married to Flore for 74 years. Together they had two sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Eddie passed away in October 2021, at the age of 101.
