What They're Saying

Critics Review

“This book is a unique, comprehensive and highly practical “survival guide” for first-year students preparing to embark on their first clinical placement.

Using clear language, the tips and guidance are straightforward, relevant, and easy to apply. This provides students with realistic insights into how a radiotherapy department functions, helping to reduce the anxiety that often accompanies clinical placement.

The book covers a wide range of topics, from technical knowledge, academic study support and objective setting to interpersonal and professional skills that are essential for success on placement. The chapter on communicating effectively with patients and colleagues provides students with practical strategies for developing confidence in often unfamiliar situations. The guidance on professionalism in clinical settings is especially useful for those entering the healthcare environment for the first time.

The content is well structured, explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. As a radiographer who qualified 27 years ago, I found that the chapters covering biological sciences and physics an excellent source of revision and the book is therefore equally valuable for experienced practitioners wishing to refresh their knowledge.

Informative, practical, and reassuring, it offers exactly the kind of support that first-year students need before entering the clinical environment for the first time. I would highly recommend!”
