Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, subsequently transitioning to a career as a cartoonist and ultimately serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric devised a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, thus bringing Spot to life. His interactive children’s book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This groundbreaking work featured a pioneering lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The immediate success of Where’s Spot? prompted Eric to dedicate himself full-time to writing. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
