Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, thus creating Spot. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, distinctive illustrations. The book’s immediate success prompted Eric to dedicate himself full-time to writing. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
