Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and later an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son featuring a small puppy, and thus, Spot was created. The interactive children’s book Where’s Spot?, published in 1980, introduced a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format alongside a simple narrative and charming, distinctive illustrations. Its immediate acclaim prompted Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing, and Spot books have since delighted children globally, appearing in various formats including audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
