Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and later an art director at a prominent advertising agency. In 1978, Eric devised a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was created.
He published Where’s Spot? in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, coupled with a simple narrative and endearing, distinctive illustrations. Its instant popularity inspired him to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally, alongside adaptations into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
