About The Author

Eric Hill

Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.

In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy to read to his son at bedtime, and thus Spot was created. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980, an interactive children’s book featuring an innovative lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and engaging illustrations. The book’s immediate success prompted him to pursue a career as a full-time author. Since then, Spot books have been enjoyed by children globally, alongside adaptations into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
