Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and ultimately an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was created. His groundbreaking interactive children’s book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This pioneering work featured a lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, distinctive illustrations.
The book’s instant success inspired Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing and illustrating. The Spot books have since been cherished by children globally and have expanded into audio books, animation, toys, and games.
