Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to a career as a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric devised a bedtime story for his son featuring a small puppy, and thus, Spot was conceived. His groundbreaking interactive children’s book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. It captivated readers with its innovative lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations.
The immediate success of Where’s Spot? inspired Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally, extending into audio books, animation, toys, and games.
