Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill OBE was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, progressing to become a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was born. His book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap design, a simple narrative, and endearing, distinctive illustrations. The immediate acclaim for Where’s Spot? prompted Eric to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
