Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, transitioning into cartooning and later becoming an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, giving birth to Spot. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and endearing, distinctive illustrations. Its immediate popularity prompted him to pursue writing full-time. Since then, Spot books have been cherished by children globally, alongside adaptations in audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
