About The Author

Eric Hill

Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot.

Hill began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.

In 1978, he created a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, thus bringing Spot to life. Where’s Spot? was published in 1980, featuring an innovative lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and engaging illustrations. The book’s immediate success led Hill to pursue a career as a full-time author.

Since then, Spot books have been enjoyed by children globally and have expanded into audio books, animation, toys, and games.
