Critics Review

“Reading Mortal Secrets is like waltzing around a crowded ballroom, past quivering gold leaf and sternly curved flowers, while your partner murmurs in your ear very elegant, very precise summaries of primal parricide and the topographical model of the mind.” - The New Yorker

“Stunning in its breadth and depth, this is a magisterial treatment of a towering thinker.” - Publisher’s Weekly (starred review)

“Convincingly critical and convincingly admiring–among the best of innumerable Freud bios.” - Kirkus (starred review)
