About The Author

Gean Viriri

Gean Viriri is a UK-based psychotherapist, writer, and researcher whose work explores trauma, identity, power, emotional inheritance, and the long-term psychological effects of historical systems on individuals and societies. Rooted in her African heritage and shaped by decades of clinical practice, her writing brings together therapeutic insight, historical analysis, and cultural reflection to examine how both people and nations carry memory across generations.

Her most recent work, Decoding Civilisational DNA, explores the psychological, political, and civilisational forces that continue to shape Africa and its relationship with the world. Drawing on history, geopolitics, trauma theory, and African intellectual traditions, the book examines how systems of extraction, dependency, memory, and identity reproduce themselves across generations—and how sovereign psychological and institutional rebuilding begins. At its core, the work asks what it means for a civilisation to recover its sense of self after centuries of disruption, fragmentation, and external control.

Alongside this work, Gean Viriri has written extensively on emotional life, workplace psychology, and identity. Decoding Workplace Emotions and its companion workbook were developed as practical emotional intelligence resources to support self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier professional relationships. Parts in the Room emerged from her experience as a Black African therapist, reflecting on race, power, silence, and emotional complexity within professional therapy spaces.

Across all her writing, she invites readers into deeper reflection, greater responsibility, and more honest listening—to themselves, to history, and to the systems shaping human behaviour.
