About The Author
Héctor Germán Oesterheld
Héctor Germán Oesterheld (Buenos Aires, July 23, 1919 - disappeared during Argentina’s last dictatorship in 1977) was a prominent comic scriptwriter and writer, recognized for his impact on science fiction and graphic storytelling. He published numerous short stories and novels in magazines such as Misterix, Hora Cero, and Frontera, creating series with iconic characters like Sargento Kirk, Ernie Pike, and Bull Rocket.
His masterpiece, El Eternauta, published between 1957 and 1959 in Hora Cero Semanal, is a science fiction comic that narrates an alien invasion on Earth through a deadly snowstorm. Starring Juan Salvo, the story highlights collective resistance and became a symbol of struggle and memory in Argentina, carrying a strong political and social message. It is considered one of the most influential comics in Latin America.
Francisco Solano López was born on October 26, 1928. He was one of Argentina’s most important comic artists. His career began in the 1950s at Editorial Columba, where he illustrated Perico y Guillermina. Shortly after, he started his creative partnership with Héctor Germán Oesterheld in Bull Rocket for Misterix. At Editorial Frontera, he worked on Joe Zonda, Rul de la Luna, Rolo el marciano adoptivo, Ernie Pike and El Cuaderno Rojo.
After El Eternauta, Solano moved to Europe (1963-1967), where he worked for Fleetway on more than 60 titles, including Galaxus, Kelly Ojo Mágico and Adam Eterno. Upon returning to Argentina, the success of El Eternauta led him to reunite with Oesterheld to create El Eternauta II in Skorpio (1976). He also collaborated with Ricardo Barreiro on Slot Barr, Ministerio and Instituto.
In 1977, he emigrated to Spain, where he worked on Ana and Historias Tristes. In 1980, he illustrated Águila Negra with Ray Collins for Nippur Magnum. In Superhumor, he published Calle Corrientes with Guillermo Saccomanno and created Evaristo with Carlos Sampayo. Later, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, working remotely for publishers worldwide.
He received awards such as El Madroño in Madrid (1998), a Mention at Comics & Games Italy (2007) and the Rodolfo Walsh Award (2009). In 2008, he was declared a Distinguished Cultural Personality in Buenos Aires. He received posthumously the Konex Prize (2012), and in 2016, El Eternauta won the Eisner Award.
