About The Author

Hideyuki Kikuchi

Hideyuki Kikuchi is a Japanese author renowned for his contributions to the horror genre. His most celebrated works include the internationally acclaimed Vampire Hunter D series, Darkside Blues, and Wicked City. Kikuchi’s distinctive style has drawn comparisons to literary titans such as Stephen King and H. P. Lovecraft.

Born in Choshi, Japan, on September 25, 1949, Kikuchi pursued his passion for writing at Aoyama Gakuin University. His literary training was further honed under the tutelage of the esteemed author Kazuo Koike.

Kikuchi’s debut novel, Demon City Shinjuku, was published in 1982, marking the beginning of his prolific career. A significant professional and personal connection was forged with writer and director Yoshiaki Kawajiri during the adaptation of Wicked City. This collaboration led to subsequent projects, including Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and the OVA adaptation of Demon City Shinjuku, solidifying a lasting creative partnership.
