Hilary Nangle
Hilary Nangle has always been drawn back to her home state of Maine, despite brief periods away for college and graduate school. She grew up on the coast and spent winters skiing in the western mountains. Her passion for exploration intensified when she became a Registered Maine Whitewater Guide on the Kennebec River, opening up opportunities to discover central and northern Maine.
Seeking a “real job” as her parents often inquired, Hilary leveraged her writing abilities. Her early career involved editing pro ski tour publications, followed by roles as managing editor for a food trade publication and features editor for a daily newspaper. Currently, she works as a freelance writer for national magazines, newspapers, and websites.
Hilary’s love for Maine is evident in her continuous exploration of its hidden gems and quirky spots, always eager to take the scenic route. She shares her grandmother’s penchant for browsing used bookstores, artisan galleries, and antique shops. Her culinary curiosity is boundless, and she has a particular fondness for lobster. Hilary continues to split her time between the coast and the mountains, living with her husband, Tom Nangle, and their large dog. Both her husband and dog share her enthusiasm for long walks and locally made ice cream.
