Hill, Eric
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and then an art director at a prominent advertising agency. In 1978, Eric invented a story about a small puppy for his son’s bedtime, thus creating Spot.
He published Where’s Spot? in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and delightful, distinctive illustrations. Its immediate popularity led him to pursue a full-time career as an author. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
