Ian R. Tizard

Ian R. Tizard holds the following qualifications: BVMS, BSc, PhD, DSc (Hons), and is a DACVM (Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists). He is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Immunology in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at The Texas Veterinary Medical Center, Texas A&M University.

Dr. Tizard received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1965. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in Pathology and a PhD in Immunology. Following his postgraduate studies, Dr. Tizard served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Guelph. He then held a professorship at the University of Guelph until 1982, when he relocated to Texas A&M University.

In 1977, Dr. Tizard authored the inaugural standardized textbook on Veterinary Immunology. This seminal work, currently in its 11th edition, is recognized globally and has been instrumental in elevating Immunology to a core discipline within veterinary medicine.
