What They're Saying

Critics Review

“Surducan’s story is a whimsical and fresh take on the old fairy-tale tropes about working hard and hardly working—and the balance one needs to strike between the two. The art style is both nostalgic and new at the same time. Color changes between Nina’s world and the Other World is like stepping through the looking glass with Alice. There is also a nice mirror of Nina in the Other World that helps readers understand that the opposite of working all the time is not selfishly doing nothing… A short, sweet look at burnout for middle grade readers, with delightful art and a relatable lead character for all to love. * School Library Journal *
“Each page is delightful… Ileana Surducan’s Eisner-nominated The Lost Sunday is a delightful re-telling of a traditional fairy tale, adding modern-day themes of burnout and the necessity of free time. Through whimsical illustrations, beautiful colors, charming characters and layered storytelling, Surducan captures everything wonderful, joyful and meaningful about fairy tales. And most important, my children were completely enthralled from beginning to end.” * AIPT *
“A beautiful graphic novel that feels reminiscent of nursery rhyme & fairy tale books.” * Comicon.com *
