He has been a keen historian and industrial archaeologist since his school days, and is particularly passionate about the history of railways. Considered to be the expert on all things Flying Scotsman, he wrote The Flying Scotsman Story and Flying Scotsman: The Most Famous Locomotive in the World for The History Press.
