About The Author
James Smith
Dr. James Smith is an automotive engineer. He holds a Master’s degree in Automotive Engineering and a PhD in Thermo-fluids from the University of Bath. Inspired to a love of quirky classic vehicles by a 1978 Allegro Vanden Plas, he bought his first classic motorbike whilst living in India - a 1951 Matchless G3LS model that had originally been supplied to the Indian Army. Travelling to Hong Kong with the bike, James continued to learn more about its quirks, gaining first-hand experience of diagnosing, repairing and re-assembling a failing electrical system. He has now combined his experience with his engineering background to write this book. James also designs and manufactures modern electrical upgrades for classic bikes.
