Douglas Lloyd Jenkins MNZM
Douglas Lloyd Jenkins is an award-winning writer and critic, born in Auckland in 1963. He is recognized for his commentary on architecture, design, and the arts, having previously written columns for prominent publications. His notable works include:
- At Home: A Century of New Zealand Design (2004), which received the Montana Medal for Non-fiction in 2005.
- The Dress Circle: New Zealand Fashion Design Since 1940 (2010), co-authored and shortlisted for the Montana Medal.
- Beach Life: A Celebration of Kiwi Beach Culture (2016), winner of the 2019 PANZ Book Design award for Best Illustrated Book.
Jenkins was awarded Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2008 for his contributions to architecture and design, and the New Zealand Institute of Architects presented him with its President’s Award for contribution to architecture in 2009. His diverse background also includes experience as a television presenter, academic, and museum director. Since 2020, he has dedicated his time to restoring an Arts and Crafts-era house and garden, and to writing novels, with his most recent publication being the novel Shelter (2022).
