Jordan Bilsborrow
Jordan Bilsborrow (Author)
Dr Jordan Bilsborrow is a senior botanist at the Royal Horticultural Society, specializing in plant identification. His passion lies in identifying a diverse range of plants, from humble weeds to majestic trees.
He leads the plant identification team within the RHS Gardening Advice Service and conducts research on the ecosystem services provided by trees and hedges. Jordan also imparts his plant identification expertise to RHS Horticulture Students through courses on topics such as conifers and winter trees. Previously, he taught plant diversity at the University of Reading, where he also completed his PhD on daffodil species identification. His doctoral research involved fieldwork across Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
A dedicated advocate for botanical education, Jordan contributes to the Botanical University Challenge by crafting questions aimed at inspiring future plant scientists.
Elisabeth Larsen (Author)
Dr Elisabeth Karlstad Larsen developed a profound appreciation for forests and trees during her upbringing in Norway. Her early academic work, during her MSc studies, focused on black poplar drought tolerance for biofuel. She then joined a research team in Valencia to study the water-use of Aleppo pine forests in a Mediterranean climate for her PhD.
More recently, she concluded a five-year project as a Tree Scientist at the Royal Horticultural Society, examining the ecosystem services provided by garden trees. This role broadened her expertise to encompass a wider array of tree species and offered opportunities to supervise students, as well as participate in and organize conferences and expert panels.
Driven by a passion for the challenges trees face due to climate change, she currently works at Forest Research, concentrating on forest biodiversity and agroforestry across the UK.
