About The Author

José Emilio Pacheco

José Emilio Pacheco (Ciudad de México, 1939-2014) published his first short stories in La sangre de Medusa, followed by El viento distante and El principio del placer. Among his narrative works, Morirás lejos and Las batallas en el desierto, a long seller since its launch, stand out.

His poetic work, which began with Los elementos de la noche and El reposo del fuego, is unparalleled and already includes fourteen poetry collections gathered in two anthologies.

Also noteworthy is his work as an essayist, particularly in «Inventario», a column published over four decades in which literary and journalistic elements converge, fundamental to understanding the culture of Mexico and the world.

His translations of Beckett, Wilde, Tennessee Williams, T.S. Eliot, to name a few, bring us closer to the references of universal literature.

He received, among others, the José Asunción Silva (1996), José Donoso (2001), Octavio Paz (2003), Ramón López Velarde (2003), Pablo Neruda (2004), Alfonso Reyes (2004), Reina Sofía (2009), and Cervantes (2009) awards.
