Joss Whedon is a veteran writer, producer, and director renowned for his witty dialogue, genre-blending sensibilities, and strong female characters across film, television, and comics. An Emmy-nominated, third-generation talent, Whedon began his career writing for the sitcom Roseanne in 1989. His early film writing credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alien: Resurrection, and the Oscar-nominated Toy Story.
Whedon transitioned back to television, where he transformed the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer into the critically acclaimed TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and its spin-off, Angel (1999-2004). His sci-fi Western series Firefly (2002), though short-lived, gained a significant following on DVD, leading to the feature film Serenity (2005), which Whedon wrote and directed. He returned to television in 2009 with Dollhouse and explored horror in the 2010 feature film The Cabin in the Woods.
A lifelong comics enthusiast, Whedon entered the industry with the 2001 Dark Horse mini-series Fray. He later co-wrote a Serenity mini-series for Dark Horse, plotted IDW Publishing’s Angel: After the Fall series, and served as co-writer and executive producer for Dark Horse’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Eight series. At Marvel, Whedon is celebrated for his popular run on Astonishing X-Men with John Cassaday and his work on Runaways.
John Cassaday
John Cassaday is an artist whose collaboration with Joss Whedon on Astonishing X-Men significantly elevated his already impressive career. Lauded by peers like Warren Ellis and Alan Moore, Cassaday remains a formidable force in the industry. His work on Astonishing X-Men and WildStorm’s Planetary earned him an unprecedented three consecutive Eisner Awards for Best Artist, with Astonishing X-Men also winning for Best Continuing Series.
Beyond his work with Whedon, Cassaday has contributed to Marvel’s Captain America series, including Captain America: Fallen Son, and provided covers and design work for Dynamite Entertainment’s revamped Lone Ranger series.
