Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted Berserk Prototype, a 48-page manga and introduction to the Berserk fantasy world, in 1988 while attending Nihon University. The work won him a prize from the Comi Manga School. After receiving his doctorate in 1989, Miura began King of Wolves, a project based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).
The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, meeting with limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on the manga Japan. Miura’s fame grew significantly after Berserk’s “The Golden Age” story arc. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired that same year on NTV. The series has since spawned a wide array of merchandise, from statues and action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resides in Tokyo, Japan.
