Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted his 48-page manga Berserk Prototype in 1988 while attending Nihon University. This work served as an introduction to the world of Berserk and earned him a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving his doctorate degree, Miura began a project titled King of Wolves, based on a script by Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).
In 1990, the first volume of Berserk was released to relatively limited success. Miura once again collaborated with Buronson on a manga titled Japan. Miura’s fame grew significantly after Berserk began “The Golden Age” story arc. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired that year on NTV. The Berserk franchise has since expanded to include a wide range of merchandise, both official and fan-made, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resides in Tokyo, Japan.
