Lucy Maud Montgomery

Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE, also known by her pen name L M Montgomery (November 30, 1874 - April 24, 1942), is best known for her novels, essays, short stories, and poems, beginning with Anne of Green Gables in 1908. She authored 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 articles. Anne of Green Gables was an instant hit, and the orphan Anne Shirley made Montgomery famous and earned her a global following. Most of her novels were set in Prince Edward Island. In 1935, she was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire. Montgomery’s writings, journals, and correspondence have been read and studied by scholars and readers worldwide. She was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island (now New London), on November 30, 1874.
