Mark Gruenwald
Mark Gruenwald (1953-1996)
Mark Gruenwald was a writer and editor who significantly influenced Marvel Comics. He is celebrated for his pioneering work on the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and his acclaimed creation, Squadron Supreme. His extensive writing credits include over a hundred issues of Captain America, multiple sagas in Marvel Two-in-One, and several miniseries such as Contest of Champions, Marvel’s first multi-hero epic. Gruenwald also delved into the Marvel Universe’s ancient history through a series of What If? backup stories which he also illustrated.
Roy Thomas
Roy Thomas began his career at the Marvel Bullpen as a writer and editor under the mentorship of Stan Lee. He scripted pivotal runs for nearly every major Marvel title of his era, including Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Sub-Mariner, Thor, and X-Men. Thomas was the writer for the first decade of Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan, and launched successful series like Defenders, Iron Fist, Invaders, and Warlock.
At DC Comics, he developed All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc., and related titles, playing a crucial role in the revival of the Golden Age Justice Society of America. Later, Thomas served as the editor of Alter Ego, a magazine dedicated to comic book history, and co-scripted the sword-and-sorcery films Fire and Ice and Conan the Destroyer.
