Mary Brennan Thorpe
About the Author
The Rev. Dr. Mary Brennan Thorpe’s career has spanned a diverse range of fields, from technology and public policy to her current calling as a leader in the Episcopal Church. She has served as an intentional interim rector and a settled rector, before moving into leadership roles as Director of Transition Ministry and then Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Virginia.
Her extensive experience in facilitating transitions within congregations, having guided over a hundred such processes, forms the foundation of her work. Her doctoral research has further informed her expertise in this area and in her writing.
Before her ordination, Dr. Thorpe cultivated vibrant careers in technology design and management, as well as in public policy and advocacy. Her academic journey includes a BA in Music from Jersey City State College, an MMusEd from the Hartt College of Music of the University of Hartford, an MDiv with honors from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a DMin from Columbia Presbyterian Seminary. She also holds a certificate in the Management of High-Technology Companies from Stanford University and the American Electronics Association.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Thorpe is a gifted iconographer, with one of her icons gracing the cover of this book. She is also a musician, a devoted wife, a mother of five, and a grandmother of five.
