What They're Saying

Critics Review

“In M.F.K. Fisher memory and word are joined incomparably.”
–James Beard

“The greatest food writer who has ever lived.”
–Simon Schama, Financial Times

“In a properly run culture, Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher would be recognized as one of the great writers this country has produced in this century.”
–Raymond Sokolov, The New York Times Book Review

“M.F.K. Fisher is as talented a writer as she is a cook. Indeed, I do not know of anyone in the United States today who writes better prose.”
–W.H. Auden

“Since Lewis Carroll no one had written charmingly about that indecisively sexed bivalve until Mrs. Fisher came along with her Consider the Oyster. Surely this will stand for some time as the most judicious treatment in English.”
–Clifton Fadiman
