Mieke Bal

Mieke Bal was a founding director of the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis and is an Academy Professor in the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has been the A. D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. She is the author of, among other books, Death and Dissymmetry: The Politics of Coherence in the Book of Judges; Louise Bourgeois’ “Spider”: The Architecture of Art-Writing; and Quoting Caravaggio: Contemporary Art, Preposterous History, all published by the University of Chicago Press. She is also a filmmaker.
