Mike Munro
Mike Munro is a former journalist with two decades of experience, including a decade spent in Wellington’s parliamentary press gallery. He served as a political correspondent for the New Zealand Herald and later The Dominion (now The Post), eventually becoming The Dominion’s political editor for three years.
His career transitioned into government, where he served as chief press secretary to Helen Clark, then leader of the Labour Party in opposition. He continued in this role for ten years, the latter six as Chief Press Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office during Clark’s government. Subsequently, he spent 18 months as Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Earlier in his government advisory career, Mike was the New Zealand Treasury’s Director of Communications for 2½ years, and he also headed corporate affairs for Todd Corporation for four years.
Mike is an experienced writer, advisor, political strategist, presenter, and communications planner, with a deep understanding of the New Zealand media landscape.
