Nick Barber

Dr. Nick Barber is an Emeritus Professor of Pharmacy at UCL and a world-renowned expert in his field, recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

His contributions include:

  • Developing a national service for patients initiating new medications, now utilized by approximately one million patients annually in the UK and replicated in six other countries. This service has generated savings exceeding £6 billion for the NHS.
  • Creating the national framework for good prescribing practices, which serves as a benchmark for all General Practitioners.
  • His research on medication errors in care homes prompted a Ministerial Summit and led to significant changes in national policy.

Professor Barber has authored over 200 research papers, with his work cited more than 23,000 times. He also presented the BBC series “Victorian Pharmacy,” four one-hour episodes aired in 2010. The series achieved a viewership of 2.6 million during its initial broadcast, was distributed internationally, and continues to be repeated.
