Critics Review
What can I say? Quite simply, this is the book that I wish had been available to me two decades ago. It is brilliant. Practical, instantly accessible and (as you would expect given the authors) infused with real-world experience. Whether you are a secondary school student interested in pursuing law at university, or a criminal barrister in the early years of practice, the lessons in these chapters are invaluable. It has even caused me to reflect on some of my own ingrained (bad) habits. Life as an advocate is (or should be) a continuous search for self-improvement. This book will be an indispensable companion in that endeavour.
The Secret Barrister, A Leading Barrister specializing in Criminal Law, 2026
This humble and brilliant book gently takes the hand of the aspiring lawyer and calmly walks them along the road of how evidence is obtained in court, signposted with the essential skills and dangers. It is a book that goes back to basics and in doing so reveals how the criminal justice system has evolved over the centuries to create a fair trial. Whether you are starting your law journey or are established as a silk or a Judge, this book is your companion to being a better lawyer in court.
Kirsty Brimelow KC, Chair of the Bar, 2026
This book is a ‘must have’ for every aspiring and established advocate. Written by two real experts, it tells you exactly what you need to do and why in every courtroom situation, with clear and simple instructions, explanations and examples. Buy one and keep it close. It will not let you down.
