PopOut was founded in 1993 by Derek Dacey. After witnessing tourists struggling with large maps in Bath, England, he was inspired by the miniature charts he used as a commercial pilot. He assembled a team to create a usable city map, resulting in the first PopOut Map Bath. Following this success, a research trip to the USA led to a redesigned layout with photo images, high-quality printing, and laminated covers.
