About The Author

Rick Wakeman

Rick Wakeman is widely considered the most gifted keyboard player of his generation, equally comfortable performing at a rock concert or in the organ loft of a grand cathedral.

Born and raised in West London, Rick initially aimed to be a concert pianist. However, he left the Royal College of Music in 1969 to pursue a career as a session musician. During this time, he contributed to iconic recordings such as David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and “Life On Mars?”, Cat Stevens’ “Morning Has Broken,” and tracks for Elton John, Marc Bolan, and Lou Reed.

Following a brief period with the folk-rock group Strawbs, Rick joined the progressive rock band Yes in 1971. In 1974, he established his own band, the English Rock Ensemble.

Since the 1980s, Rick has toured extensively, presenting solo shows that blend musical performance with engaging storytelling, as well as performing with a band.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Rick is a recognized media personality, having appeared on television programs including “Live At Jongleurs,” “Countdown,” “Never Mind the Buzzcocks,” and “Grumpy Old Men.” He also hosts a bi-monthly podcast titled “The Myths & Legends of Rick Wakeman.”

Rick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes in 2017 and was appointed a CBE for his services to music and broadcasting in 2021. This marks his fourth book. He resides near Ipswich in Suffolk.
