Robert McCloskey
Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) was a celebrated author and illustrator known for his timeless children’s books. He spent his formative years in Hamilton, Ohio, and later lived in Boston, New York, and Maine, where he raised his two daughters.
McCloskey holds the distinction of being the first two-time winner of the Caldecott Medal, recognized for his works Make Way for Ducklings and Time of Wonder. He also received Caldecott Honors for Blueberries for Sal, One Morning in Maine, and Journey Cake, Ho! by Ruth Sawyer.
In 2000, the Library of Congress honored him as a Living Legend. His beloved characters can be seen in statue form in Boston’s Public Garden and Lentil Park in Hamilton, Ohio.
