About The Author
Rumiko Takahashi
Rumiko Takahashi’s career began in 1978 with an honorable mention in Shogakukan’s New Comic Artist Contest for Those Selfish Aliens. Later that year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This highly successful manga was adapted into an anime, spawning a TV series and several movies.
Takahashi followed up with numerous hits:
- Maison Ikkoku (1980-1987)
- Ranma 1⁄2 (1987-1996)
- Inuyasha (1996-2008)
Other notable works include Mermaid Saga, Rumic Theater, and One-Pound Gospel.
In 2018, Takahashi was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame. She received the Shogakukan Manga Award twice: for Urusei Yatsura in 1981 and for Inuyasha in 2002.
Most of Takahashi’s work has been adapted into anime, live-action TV series, and films, continuing to entertain fans globally. Her stories are known for endearing characters and a blend of comedy, romance, fantasy, and martial arts, creating a signature style referred to as the “Rumic World.” Rumiko Takahashi is a distinguished artist representing the best of manga.
