Summary
Much of Western Maine reads like a Stephen King novel.
The dense dark woods and backcountry ponds. The century-old houses with gravel driveways and immense flower gardens, acres of farmland miles from a highway. Serpentine country roads dotted with farmstands, and picturesque main streets lined with battered pickups. Places where—especially during the dark and rainy days of October and November—things can get downright spooky.

Critics Review
“The Haunts that Inspired Stephen King” –Peter Saenger, The Wall Street Journal
“Stephen King’s Maine pinpoints actual places in the state that serve as the basis for the small towns that comprise the Stephen King Universe. Kitchens sheds light on these everyday places by drawing upon historical research and conversations she had with Mainers who know King or once knew him.” –Shawn P. Sullivan, Portsmouth Herald
“The new book features maps and suggested itineraries for tourists wanting to take King-centric driving tours around Maine. It also explores the real-life towns where King grew up and eventually set his stories, and the people – alive and undead – who populate them.” –Troy R. Bennett, Bangor Daily News
