Summary
Growing churches are not doing seven brilliant things. They are doing the same seven small things every week, until those small things become the standard.
Visit enough growing churches and the surprising part is how unremarkable the list is. The service starts when it says it will and ends when it says it will. Sheldon J. Andrus, III
Sheldon J. Andrus III is a dedicated second-seat leader, the strategist beside the visionary, and the architect behind the growth of some of America’s most influential churches. He wrote this book for those desiring a clear plan to grow their church.
As Executive Pastor at Union Church under Pastor Stephen Chandler, he engineered the structure, systems, and team alignment that drove growth from 2,000 to 15,000 members in three years. As Executive Pastor at The Word Church under Dr. R.A. Vernon, he rebuilt systems, reorganized ministries, launched two campuses, and redesigned the staff, a season crowned by 40 percent growth in attendance and one of the largest giving years in the church’s 25-year history.
Raised in New Orleans and formed at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church under Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sheldon took the long way into ministry. He owned a regional restaurant franchise with three original concepts across four locations and marketed for one of the nation’s largest nonprofits. In 2017, an accident took his left hand and taught him more about rebuilding than any system ever has. So he rebuilt: art direction in higher education, years in marketing and advertising, and then the church came calling.
He is the founder of Andrus Advisory and the creator of SundayOS, an operating system for helping churches grow through operational excellence. A graduate of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, one of the nation’s first Catholic all-boys schools dedicated to the education of Black men, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications from Ohio University. He lives with his wife, Bethany, and their giant schnauzer, Bruno.
